You have finally installed the carpet you’ve saved up for so long and by accident, you spill fruit juice on it the first weekend you had a party at your house. Frustrating isn’t it?
A brand new carpet installed less than a week ago and already there is a pool of fruit juice right in the middle. Don’t worry you don’t have to call professional carpet cleaners to clean it and bring it back to shape. You can rid of the stain yourself!
Here’s how to do a DIY Removal of Stains on Carpets
Generally speaking, some stains come out easily while others may require multiple applications of spot remover solution.
As soon as something is spilled on your carpet or rug, the first step is to remove it as soon as possible. Start off by blotting it out with white paper towel until it is almost dry. Never scrub carpets in a circular motion as this can destroy the surface of the carpet.
What type of cleaning solution should you use? If you do not have commercial carpet cleaners available in your home you can use dish washing liquid, household ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl-rubbing alcohol, white vinegar. Put your cleaner in a spray bottle and spray the area with the solution and then blot it out with paper towel right after spraying so it does not filter through in the carpet backing. Make sure to keep the paper towel in place with a heavy object.
For cleaning greasy marks, blot out the stain with paper towel then spray with isopropyl-rubbing alcohol making sure not to let it sink too deeply into the carpet. Always move in one direction only at a time to localize the stain.
Water-based spills are best dealt with a wet vacuum cleaner in order to siphon off as much water and large foreign material as immediately as possible. If the stain has dried, saturate the affected area with tap water without soaking the carpet. Allow to stand for 1 minute then vacuum the area and blot off the rest with paper towels.
For stubborn stains, the best cleaning solutions to use are dish washing liquid or hydrogen peroxide. Blot out the stain, apply the cleaning solution and rinse with ordinary tap water from a spray bottle making sure not to soak your carpet.
Although doing it yourself may require some effort, it is a lot cheaper than hiring professional carpet cleaners who charge by the hour. It is always best to try and clean out your carpet stains yourself before calling in the professionals.

Here are some of the things you might want to consider when choosing a pool deck for your swimming pool.
Inclusive options: Probably the standard-bearer for convenience, safety and flexibility, inclusive pool decks (decks that come with the pool purchase) are cost-effective ways to have your pool ready the instant it is installed. Above-ground pools from Kayak Pools Midwest, for example, offer security fencing, swing-up safety ladders, no-slip surfaces and integrated deck designs that fit both your pool and your budget. What’s more, advanced materials are virtually maintenance free.
Treated decking: Installing a treated deck—though more involved—is an option that allows additional customization. Much like your pool installation or any major addition to your home, installing a treated deck requires adherence to local building codes and design approval before beginning work; however a wide array of designs are possible with treated lumber that requires regular water seal maintenance.
Maintenance Free (composite) Decking: Though uniformly more expensive than inclusive decking or treated lumber, composite decking materials offer a maintenance-free alternative with the same customization options. That means, the material looks similar to wood, can be cut and fastened like wood, but is actually a weather-resistant material that eliminates the need to seal the deck structure.
Ultimately, your choice of pool decking comes down to personal choice and whether or not the added expense of a treated or composite deck is worth the investment above and beyond the inclusive option available with many swimming pools. Your swimming pool dealer can review inclusive options with you, and possibly recommend qualified companies to handle the installation of a treated or composite pool deck.

Buying bedroom furniture? Here are some ideas for choosing a bed for a contemporary bedroom.
Contemporary Bedroom Furniture: Planning a Bed
Don’t let your bed be an afterthought. Your bed will be the most prominent object in your room, so it has to go with your bedroom’s theme, color-wise, size-wise, and style-wise. A huge bed in a small room will likely look out of place, as would a four-post bed in a room with sleek modern furnishings.
Bed Sizes
The most popular bed sizes are king, queen, twin and the increasingly popular California king. A California king is narrow and long, rather than the traditional king bed’s square shape. Just make sure you have the exact dimensions of your bed before you go mattress shopping, since bed manufacturers sometimes don’t follow the standard bed sizes exactly.
Bed Styles
Don’t confuse bed sizes with bed styles. Bed styles refer to the headboard and footboard. The basis of any bed is still the mattress and frame, which only vary outwardly in terms of the sizes listed above.
Daybed. Daybeds are twin beds. What makes them special is that they can double as couches if you position them against a wall. Being compact and versatile, daybeds are great for small spaces.
Platform. Platform beds are elegantly simple, fitting in with just about any style of decor.
Sleigh bed. Sleigh beds have curved headboards and foot boards that look like, well…a sleigh. There are simpler and more modern sleigh bed designs, so you can get one even if you are going for a more modern-looking room.
Four post bed. You know this bed already: it’s the one with a post sticking up out of each corner. The posts can support a canopy, but the canopy is optional.
Pencil post bed. Pencil post beds are like four-post beds, only the posts are tall and tapered like…well, pencils. Harking back to their heyday in the 1700s, pencil-post beds fit a room with colonial furnishings especially well.

Color and trends in home fashion are coming of age in wild new hues that echo the sunny days of summer. Colors for 2006 will be warmer, clearer and brighter. Reddened oranges will replace coppery hues; yellows will gain importance; and complex neutrals will add sophistication and luxury to the 2006 consumer color palette.
There will be an extraordinary amount of bright colors. There are always bright colors for summer and outdoor wear, but now you’re starting to see it in home pieces like upholstery and bedding. Forecasted is a palette of Overexposed-electrified brights that are intense and saturated. These include Plasma – a bold, bright blue; Optimism – a sharp tangerine-melon; and Limelight – almost neon green.
The selection of color has become a far more thoughtful and exacting process than before. Consumers are using color schemes as a way to personalize their spaces. These include
saturated brights that resemble popsicle hues, as well as some hyper-brights like Blue Splash – a new turquoise; Dazzling Green – kelly-green inspired but brighter and more yellow; and Fabulous Pink – a pink with a red cast.
All this translates well into home décor and accessories. Interesting pieces that pull color from one area of the room to another are essential for a harmonious blend. One company that has been able to maintain “escape within the home” as well as offer bold color opportunities is Home and Garden Party. Showcasing one of the many faces of this spring and summer’s hottest oranges and blues, the online catalog offers prime examples of sherbet sunrise and turquoise dream.

STOP! Hold everything! Do not call a plumber until you try this little gadget that can save you hundreds of dollars. Yesterday I had a plumber come to the house to unclog two toilets so they would flush better. One of them I knew a toy had been flushed down. He took them apart, and worked on them, and told me a toy was lodged in the trap of the toilet, and the only way to get it out would be to break the toilet.
So last night I went off to Lowe’s to purchase two new toilets. While I was trying to decide which model to get, and the associate who was helping me asked what was wrong with the toilets that I had to get new ones. After explaining to him, he took me to the plumbing repair department, and showed me the “Zip It”. It is a long, flexible plastic strip, with a finger hole at the top. On both edges of the strip are teeth that point upward. The way you do it is, slide it down the toilet drain through the curvy part at the base of the toilet. If you hit something, slowly bring it back out. It took a few times, but I was able to dislodge the toy. The “Zip It” can be used on all the drains in your house. It is especially good on hair clogs in the drain, and of course, toys in the toilet. Best of all, it only cost me $2.39.
Also, while talking to the associate at Lowe’s, he told me the proper way to use a plunger. Instead of slamming it down on the downward stroke, compress it down very slowly, then bring it up fast. The suction it creates will hopefully bring up what is clogging the toilet.
One more hint for toilets is always check out the equipment in the tank if it does not flush right. This is the area that will most often wear out. Sometimes it only needs adjusting, or just the flapper needs replaced. But even if the entire works inside the tank needs replaced, it only cost about $20.00. There are detailed instructions inside the package. Or if you still have questions do a search on your search engine for toilet repair. The equipment inside the tank was really what was wrong with the other toilet.
Before you call an expensive plumber, call on the economical priced “Zip It”.

Art glass means the modern art glass movement in which individual artists are working to generate works from molten glass in relatively small furnaces of a few hundred pounds of glass. It began in the early 1960s and showed continued growth throughout the end of the century. The glass objects created are not primarily serviceable but are projected to make a sculptural or decorative statement.
Prior to the early 1960s, art glass would have referred to glass made for decorative use, habitually by teams of factory workers, taking glass from furnaces with a thousand or more pounds of glass. This form of art glass, of which Tiffany and Steuben in the U.S.A., Gallé in France and Hoya Crystal in Japan and Kosta Boda in Sweden are perhaps the best known, grew out of the factory system in which all glass objects were cast blown by teams of 4 or more men. In fact, the turn of the 19th Century was the height of the old art glass movement while the factory glass blowers were being replaced by mechanical bottle blowing and incessant window glass. In an art glass studio, “production work” shows more hand worked variation than was allowed in pure factory work environment and every piece shows some of the lead glass worker’s creativity. Most studio glass workers also try to turn out larger individual pieces which might be the corresponding of a master piece in the journeyman system of guild and factory work in addition to smaller production pieces.
Types of Art Glass:
Blown Art Glass
Cast Art Glass
Fused and slumped Art Glass

Garden lovers can be so passionate about the outdoor retreats they create that they get lost in daydreams about plants and gardening design themes for most of their waking hours. And for these people, landscaping with boulders can provide a spectacular outlet for their creative instincts. Boulders, by their sheer mass, make magnificent focal points for any garden setting
Have A Plan
Landscaping with boulders demands significant advance planning, however, simply because the boulders are so difficult to move. The boulders should be the first things positioned in a garden and their oppositions should be permanent, with all the other landscaping elements planned around them.
Designing With Levels
Landscaping with boulders will give you the opportunity to add distinct levels to your garden. You’ll have to select the best areas in your garden to develop into levels, and then define each level with groups of from three to seven boulders of different sizes.
Using Boulder Textures and Colors To Create Effects
Boulders of different minerals will add different textures and colors to your garden and you can group them in similar colors for a large area of visual impact. From calming white and ivories to more vibrant yellow and red shades, from soft grays streaked with green lichen and moss to nearly black, there’s a palette of colors which you can mix or match when landscaping with boulders to produce a variety of effects. Color has a strong influence on mood, so you can use boulders to transform different areas of your garden into calming, or energizing places.
If you’d like to add an Oriental look to your garden, landscaping with boulders is a very effective way to achieve one. A single smooth white boulder in a bed of small stones will evoke a peacefully flowing stream.
A strategically positioned series of descending boulders can create visions of a waterfall; if you are lucky enough to have a stream in your garden, you can even create an actual waterfall by landscaping with boulders.
You can get advice on how to position the boulders from the company which supplies them; the experts in onlinelandscapedesigns.com/Home_Landscaping/Pool_Landscaping.php landscaping with boulders will even suggest which end of the boulder should be kept exposed for its interest. Their staff will assist you in placing the boulders when they deliver them.
Their fascinating shapes, subtle striking colors and solidity mean that by landscaping with boulders you’ll add an air of permanence to your garden, making of it a place where your gardening dreams are truly “cast in stone”!

If you’re looking for a sleek, exotic look perfectly suited for smaller apartments and living spaces, Oriental-styled furniture is a definite option to consider. Chinese and Japanese offerings have had a great influence on Western furniture and modern design. Bedroom furniture pieces such as the platform bed and futon, as well as stacked chests and trunks are examples of Asian-inspired furniture that is practical and compact, and at the same time stylish and sophisticated.
Lacquered surfaces are a key attribute of the Chinese furniture style, creating luxuriantly deep finishes that are paradoxically subtle and striking in their elegance. Comprised of ebony, teak and rosewood, Chinese furniture often bears an inlay of semi-precious materials like lapis lazuli, jade and mother-of-pearl. Symmetrical construction, miter joints and copper, brass or pewter brackets are often employed to create a clean profile that enhances a modern, cosmopolitan living space.
Space-saving savvy puts Japanese-inspired furniture high on the list of city dwellers and dorm room denizens alike. If you love your sleek, streamlined platform bed and couldn’t live without your stowaway futon, you owe your admiration to the ingenuity of a culture that traditionally shuns large, overwrought furniture. Other recognizable items that hail from Japan include the stacked Tansu chests and Nagamochi trunks. Like Chinese furnishings, furniture influenced by Japanese design is defined by its joinery, with master artisans taking years to learn the construction of these complex, durable joints. Great pride is taken in the general lack of nails or glue that holds the structure together, and in the joint’s shock absorbing properties.
Much contemporary furniture owes its inspiration to ancient Oriental designs. The beauty of a piece was found in its usefulness and construction. Simplicity of design was valued more than ostentatious and gaudy overindulgence. The same can be said for today’s modern furniture, especially bedroom furniture, where sleek and simple equals stylish and sophisticated.

Today, a lot of products are available for purchase at your local supermarket to make your home smell like wild forests or flower fields. But the problem is most of these products consist of a lot of chemicals which are not good to breathe. Besides this serious problem concerning your health, their fragrance fades very quickly since they are made for commercial purposes; the quicker you finish the bottle the sooner you buy a new one and make the company another nice profit. Fortunately there are some alternative ways to scent your home and with these methods, the fragrance will last for weeks. So your home will smell wonderful all the time and you will not pay as much as you used to.
The easiest method is to make a little, pillow about 4 inches square and fill it with some nice scented potpourri. You can use lavender or dried citrus rinds or any kind of dried flowers of your choice. There is no limit, use your imagination and try some different scent to see which one lasts longer. Then put these little pillows wherever you want, in your drawers, under the sofa, in the bathroom. Once you test different scents it is better to decide on one kind and go with it. The smell will be stronger if all the pillows are made from the same thing.
A more creative idea is to make nice decorations of plaster of paris which you can hang by your windows or in your car. You will need candy molds, essential oils or perfume and thin twine. Mix the essential oil or perfume into the plaster of paris and pour it into the molds. Make a loop by tying the ends of the twine into a knot and press the knot into the plaster before it dries so that you can use it for hanging. In this way, you can also make “scented rocks” which are a very attractive décor. You can use some small oval or round bowls instead of candy molds. Or you can get creative and try something different.
If you are a rose fan you may want to use rosewater soaked papers to stuff inside your little pillows. For this, you will need a cup of rose petals; simmer the rose petals with one cup of water for 3-4 hours and make sure the water is strongly scented. You may need to add some water if it evaporates during simmering. When you have a strong concentration, strain the mixture and place some strips of paper in it and simmer again until the water evaporates. Then lay the papers to dry, tear them into pieces and place in your little pillows. The scent may not be strong at the beginning but in time you will notice a nice, slight rose in your home. The scent will be released as the papers inside the pillows warm after a while. Another idea is to put these scented papers in an envelope and then put the envelope in your vacuum bag. You will notice the nice rose scent every time you vacuum your home.
